Just Need A Bit Of Info...thanks

hello, i have not written anything for a while about myself, i have been reading and replying to some though.....i just wanted to ask.....
i think i know what alot of u will say, if i ask for an opinion on stilnox, (its called ambiem over in america). but what i want to know is, if it is related to benzo's as i often take it lately to help me sleep, and ive noticed that, that stuff is addictive!! ive heard its not a benzo but acts like one which worries me a bit as most of u know i have struggled to get off them over the years...with the xanax and valium ect, and i dont take those anymore. stilnox (ambiem) is the "new thing" out here in the "controlled realease tablets." they have the normal ones and now they have the "new and improved version" (rolls eyes)...
i still have my ocd, and its bad at night so i have noticed taking the sleeping pill is becoming a bit of a coping strategy...in physically stopping myself from getting up and down and checking stuff as i will go to sleep....yes i know....going back to my old coping strategy of taking a pill....thats why im asking and trying to do something about it, i know it might sound silly, but i do realise this is a problem of mine that is still there, so please dont go off at me, but advice would be good.

oh my thyroid prob, is gettting better i think, well i have lost weight and, i have to have some more blood tests to check it soon. i take one "thyroxin" each day.

ok sorry a bit off topic, so this one is not a serious addiction! but lately i have been drinking "vanilla coke" everyday, and now i cannot go without it....if i do i start shaking! perhaps its the caffeine, cuz i dont even drink coffee, just tea.

thanks for any advice, replys ect....elvis (still kicking..lol) xoxoox
ELVIS
I TOO TAKE AMBIEN CR FOR SLEEP ANXIETY AND I THINK IT IS ADDICTIVE, READ THE PRINT OUT, I DONT KNOW WHERE MINE IS, I SUPPOSE I COULD GOOGLE IT, I TOO SUFFER FROM OCD, NOT TOO EXTREME THANK GOD, BUT PAXIL HAS HELPED SOME IN THAT AREA.
HAD I KNOWN IT WAS ADDICTIVE, WOULDNT HAVE TAKEN IT, BUT I TRUSTED MY SUB DOCTOR TO KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR AN ADDICT. I HAVE BEEN CAUGHT UP FOR YEARS IN THE PROBLEM THAT I NEED SOMETHING TO SLEEP, IT STARTED OUT AS INNOCENT AS TYLENOL PM ONE NIGHT A FEW YEARS BACK FOR MENSTRUAL CRAMPS I WAS HAVING, IT IS MOOD ALTERING AND THATS HOW I GOT CAUGHT IN THE TRAP FOR THAT. BEWARE BENZO ADDICTS, BENADRYL CAN BE ADDICTIVE, IT WAS FOR ME, AND AT THAT TIME I DIDNT HAVE A VICODIN PROBLEM, IT WAS BREWING AND LURKING AT THAT TIME. I WAS INTO HEAVY MARIJUANA USAGE AND BETWEEN BENADRYL AND POT, MY POOR MOUTH HAD NO SALIVA AND I STILL CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE WITH THAT PROBLEM EVEN CLEAN FROM POT AND VICODIN, I THINK ITS THE PAXIL, IT SEEMS I AM STARTING TO HAVE SIDE EFFECTS FROM ALL THE MEDS I AM ON, BUT WHICH ONE?
HAVING NO SALIVA IS NOT GOOD FOR THE TEETH, HAVING DIABETES DOESNT HELP EITHER IN THE ORAL HEALTH DEPT. SO HERE I AM AT 50 GETTING CAVITIES GALORE FLLED AND FIXING 3 BROKEN TEETH THIS MONTH. I LOVE MY TEETH, BEEN BLESSED WITH A GOOD SET AND WANT TO KEEP THEM IN GOOD CONDITION. I HAVE TRIED, MOUTH WASHES, LEMON DROPS, DRY MOUTH SPRAYS, ANYTHING TO KEEP THE SALIVA GOING. MAN I AM A MESS! I HAVE ALOT TO WORK ON, I GUESS BEING OUT OF THE VICODIN FOG IS MAKING ME SEE ALL THIS. JULIE
hey julie, thanks for the reply. having no saliva is a horrible feeling i know! i only suffered from it once when i was put on medication that didnt agree with me, and made my mouth go all dry!!! i had to keep filling my mouth with water as i couldnt swallow!! it was horrible not being able to swallow!!! i feel for u!! i have a good set of teeth too luckily, not one filling......surely ur doctor can sort out why this is happening?! it would be so uncomfortable!

yes, on the leaflet for the stilnox (ambiem)....it describes it as an "hypnotic" sleeping pill. perhaps thats why u dont remember anything u do after u take it?!?!? well i dont! i can wake up and ill have done something i dont remember doing, such simple stuff like moving something or eating something?! it disturbs me that i cant remember! im finding it very hard to sleep when i dont take it. i think i should perhaps, suffer insomnia for a few weeks and just try and put up with the ocd and control it myself, esp since i have found the sleeping pill to be addictive....in regards to ive had to take a couple more each time for it to work! i have tried this but it still drives me mad! ive been trying to find a reason for it?!?! i have read ocd has something to do with anxiety.....that would be right with me but it really drives me nuts, and only seems to set in at night for some darn reason!!!! i never used to have it! i sympathise with anyone that has it!

take care xoox
Elvis, You are playing with fire. Ambien is addictive I should know because I became addicted to it to the point I was taking it during the day. You know that's bad when it is used for sleep but I managed to find a way to abuse it. I started out taking one at night then before I knew it a bottle of 30 which should last a month was gone within 10 days. Let me tell you a story you talk in your post about how when you take them you do things you don't remember doing the next morning. One night I must have takin quite a few and I had this wierd dream or something and I walked to my bedroom window and opened it up and for some reason I was trying to climb out the window and jump over to our porch. There was no way I would have ever made it because thats quite the jump and my bedroom is on the second floor. If it wasn't for my husband waking up and stopping me I would of ended up hurt pretty badly or dead. I could go on and on about how dangerous Ambien is but I think you know. Leave that s*** alone. Shantel
wow! thanks for ur reply shantel! as far as i know i havent done anything dangerous, i make sure i am actually in bed when i take it, but ur story is a worry! and u dont remember doing this yeh?! ur husband told u? and u ended up taking it in the day as well!!

i havent taken any in the past few nights.....not getting much if any sleep at all....and when i do get a bit im having really bad nightmares!!! but trying hard to persist with it, and trying to cope with the ocd myself!

take care
Elvis, I dont know if you get Tyra Banks show but she had a show on ocd today. I have ocd myself, the doctor put me on afranil to control it and it helped a little, I now take a small amount of anafranil and combine it with inositol (its in the vitamin b group) and it has helped tremendously.
Its helps a great deal to have as little stress in your life as possible, I know you've been having a rough time but the inositol has shown in numerous studies to lessen ocd sypmtoms.
hey thanks john dee! i am on Anafranil as well!!! for the ocd....i dont know if its really helping though. i have never heard of inositol!! im in oz, i dont know if they have it here? what is it? i could always ask my doctor about it.....

take care

p.s im not sure about the tyra banks show....maybe we get it on cable?! but not on our normal channels i dont think...would of been good to see it!
Elvis, you can buy it at any vitamin or supplement shop otc. You can take up to 5 grams a day but you may find you may not need that much, I find 75mg of anafranil and 3-4 grams of inositol a day helps my ocd quite a bit. My doctor wanted me to take up to 250mg a day of the anfranil but the side effects as I went higher were intolerable, little jd didnt like too much anafranil.
You may want to google it and do some research.
thanks john dee! i will look them both up. ive looked the anafranil up awhile ago but cant remember much about it. i will look up the inositol too!! thankyou for the information.
can i ask what sort of ocd u have? i have to check certain things over and over! drives me nuts! i never used to have it and its worse at night!!
Elvis honey,

Great to see you posting. Stop taking the stilnox. It will do you no good.

Find something, like work, working out, walking, all of these will make you tired enough to sleep, although I know the weather we are having makes that almost impossible.

If all else fails, get a boyfreind, LOL.

With love
Wendy
Same as you, I used to check certain things, had rituals, counted, always in 4's. there was a women on Tyra today that had the same rituals as me and used 4's too. Mine was always worse at night too, right before bed, took me an hour to actually get into bed.
On the plus side my counting helped strengthen my math skills, lol

Did you ever have strep throat Elvis?, they have found that certian people that get strep get ocd after the strep. I never did, its not the only cause but they have found a correlation.
i have actually been working out quite a bit lately wendy...although it is hard in this weather to get outside!!!! ive been using my sisters sit up machine under the air conditioner lol! i am trying not to take the stilnox....and havent taken it for about 5 nights now, but not getting much if any sleep and if i do having nightmares....i guess it will ware off if i persist?!

john, i feel for u with the ocd....it drives me mad! i can relate about taking an hour to get into bed!!!! aarrhh grrrr! i looked up inositol, and it said "These results suggest that inositol has therapeutic effects in the spectrum of illness responsive to serotonin selective re-uptake inhibitors, including depression, panic and OCD"....so sounds interesting. im not sure if i can get it here as i looked it up and it just saying i could buy it from different countries, but i will ask about it!!

take care

p.s yes i have had strep throat, but didnt have the ocd right after it......it seemed to come as my stress, and anxietly prob went up! i always get sore throats and used to get tonsilitis alot....
Good to hear Elvis,

If you haven't taken it for 5 nights you can probably do without it altogether.

We are supposed to be having a cool change but I'm yet to feel it in Gembrook

Wendy
Elvis, a good book that me therapist gave me is STOP Obsessing by Foa and Wilson, if you spend the time doing the exercises recomended it helps quite a bit.
wendy, sorry i counted to make sure and its been 3 nights lol....feels like 5! yes i felt a cool change before here in suburbia but still have the air con on just to cool the house down! cuz when i exercise in a few mins ill get all hot too...
oh ok john, thankyou for the reference, im not under a therapist now, but he never gave me any exercises, just told me to ignore it and not let myself do it and try to rationalise with myself basically.....ill have a look at that too then as im willing to try anything to help it!! drives me nuts!!

take care
Elvis,

Why not wait till the sun goes down and go for a walk. Thats what I'm gonna do. Although I'll go a half hour before. We don't have any street lights LOL

Wendy
