totally off topic but being from Boston I gotta tell ya....I'm in HEAVEN!
Hi KL;
Off topic, but welcome news regardless! For some reason this has been a rough week for me - just depressed most of the time. So the Sawks have helped make this time a bit more bearable. Whatever it takes in recovery, right?
My sister lives in Beacon Hill - one of my brothers (we all live in CT) is going up to visit for the weekend with his wife and kids to catch the parade and enjoy the long overdue celebration.
As has been reported in the media...Hell has frozen over, and Pigs do fly!!!

i still can't believe they beat the yankees.
It was a natural high for me (off percs for 10 days now and having a real hard time) to watch them win and coming into the office today to witness my co-workers excitment is unbelievably motivating. I'm taking my kids to the parade. It's really nice to have something to be happy about other than a pill (for today anyway)

Dear KL63,
I've been a diehard fan ever since I lived in Scituate, south of Boston, from the ages of 8-11. Unfortunately I saw the 1986 World Series, and this is redemption at its finest.
I'm going to do all I can do get to the parade, since Boston's only about 90 minutes away.
I don't know about any of you guys, but being one of the "Fenway Faithful," and watching them develop into an even more spectacular team this season has helped me tremendously with my recovery. In so many instances, people can justify relapse quite easily; however, for me, studying, family, friends, sports (the Sox and the Boston Bruins), and now this wonderful site, makes me want to continue on the road to recovery that I've been on.
Great thread. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hey Ben,
Scituate Harbor is so nice...haven't been there in years. I grew up in Quincy but now live in Hingham.

I lived in Boston for 5 years in the 80's (Allston, Sommerville), so I was rooting for the boys also...almost more for the fans than the current team. Eight in a row. Unbelievable. Maybe now Buckner's kids will get some peace ..<wink>
Scituate? i remember filming a movie there back in the early 90s. what a great little coastal town. i am still not over the yankees not going to the series but my baseball cap goes off to the soxs. great job!
Dear KL63,
Scituate Harbor is a beautiful sight. Whenever I head up there, I stay at the a beautiful old 'inn' - "The Clipper Ship."
I have friends that live in Hingham. Also a beautiful place. Small world, KL!

Dear Earthdog,
What was the name of that movie? This is going to irritate me until I can remember it - LOL.
I don't know if you've ever been to Massachusetts, but it's a beautiful state - come visit sometime! All of New England is beautiful, though.
Have a great day. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear None,
Such a small world. I'm with you all the way with regards to Bill Buckner and his children. This World Series win was for all those great players throughout the 86 year drought that came oh-so close, but couldn't. And Buckner is definitely part of that.

Yes, but what will be the identity of the Sox fan now? I mean, it's always been about the curse of Ruth and the inevitable bad luck just when you're starting to believe again...... Maybe now it will be something like, "Well, ok, maybe it can happen, but only once every 86 years, and then only if we're lucky".... Am I right?
Dear None,
Right on target! Before this championship, all the "Fenway Faithful" would sit around and ask: "What if this? What if that? Maybe if they had done it this way...?"
If I have to wait 86 years for another championship, I'll be 113 years old. And since I'm pretty sure I'm not going to make it to 113, I hope that the "Idiots" (as the Sox players call themselves) can pull off another win. Nevertheless, you are exactly right. Besides this World Series win, what are we going to talk about? Complain about?
I apologize to all for changing this into a Red Sox topic.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Good to see fellow members of Red Sox nation here. Complain? Hell Im gonna enjoy this for awhile.

Dear John,
Sounds like a great plan to me. I'll relish this win through the entire winter, spring training, and, most definitely opening day. They'll hang the World Series banner down over Yawkey Way, and introduce the 2005 World Champion Red Sox - all in front of the Yankees, since that's who the Sox are playing on opening day.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, John.

the name of the film was "the witches of eastwick" and it was shot just outside "scituate" in a small fishing village called "hingham" i remember that this place was so quaint and new england like! i have been back to boston many times since this film was made but have not driven down to that area again. i would love to go back and visit it again.

Dear Earthdog,
Thanks! I went to a Sox party, and asked everyone if they knew the name of the movie, but, to no avail.
I appreciate the information. I have such fond memories of the "south shore" and, of course, Boston.
Have a great night!

I am lucky enough to live in Hingham and although I have traveled around the world I have to say that I think this is one of the prettiest places on earth.
I am going to the Sox parade tomorrow and will let you know how it was!
